Magic is everywhere. Those who can tap into it’s power are known as spellcasters. They weave the magic of the world into spells, magical effects where a caster shapes the magic to do their bidding.
The shape spells take vary greatly, and the method used for spell casting will shape what kinds of spells that a spellcaster can shape magic into.
Magical Mind is a shortcut to talk about a character’s capacity for learning magical spells. A character’s mind can only hold so much magical energy before it’s expended. Magical Mind is just another word for Spell Slots.
Spells can divided into two types: Magical Spellcasting, and Clerical Spellcasting. Although much of the basics of spellcasting is shared between the two, they are fundamentally different in the way that a spellcaster interacts with them.
Clerical spells arise from belief given structure through doctrine, symbol, and rite. When faith is steady and observance true, belief itself gains the weight to alter the world.
Magical spells are shaped through study and precision, bending the hidden laws of the world by knowledge alone. They demand exact words, gestures, and preparation, and answer only correctness.
Druidic Spells are different from Magical and Clerical spells, as their power source is a little less clear. Spellcasters of both belief and study have found ways to conjure these forces. Thus, Druidic spells can almost be looked at as an add-on for spell casting.
If a Path allows you to be a Druidic Spellcaster, you will either be an Orthopractic Spellcaster, or a Telluric Spellcaster. However, if a feature allows you to tap into the Druidic Spell list in some way, it will reference Druidic Spells.
Votive spells are enacted through custom, taboo, and communal rite rooted in reverence for the natural order. Practiced by keepers of old ways, such magic endures only while balance and tradition are upheld.
Votive Spells are based on Clerical Spells, and Votive spellcasters will have access to a large portion of the Clerical Spell list as well. Some Clerical Spells, such as those dealing with the cosmic forces of good and evil, those dealing directly with undeath, and those dealing with sacred or profane powers, are unavailable to Votive Spellcasters.
Clerical Spells that cannot be used by Votive spellcasters have a note in their description noting that they cannot be prepared or cast by Votive spellcasters.
Telluric Spells are learned from the study of the natural world and its living patterns, rather than abstract laws or formulae. This tradition stands beside other magical arts, drawing power from season, soil, and beast instead of sigil and star.
