Largely considered to be “pagan magic”, Goetia is a practiced art rooted in a spiritual connection with the very earth. Some Goetic casters are religious as well. To the lay person, Goetia and Theurgy are indistinguishable from each other, but from a practiced user, they very much are different.
As noted above, Goetic spellcasting is rooted in spirituality, as well as knowledge. As such, your spiritual ties to yourself and the earth around you generates your power.
The most common caster of Goetic magic is the Druid, and it is sometimes called “Sorcery”.
As a Goetic Spell Caster, you know the preparation rituals for all spells on your Class Spell List. At the time of spell preparation, you simply select which spells you wish to fill in each Spell Slot. If you wish to cast the same spell multiple times per day, you must prepare it multiple times.
The following considerations must be made when casting a Goetic spell.
Although Goetic magics flow from the essence of the very earth, your spiritual force and attunement to those forces drives the power of your spells. When a Goetic spell calls for your Spell Casting Ability Score Modifier, you use your Wisdom modifier.
The DC for your Goetic spells is 12 + your Wisdom Modifier + your Spell Bonus.
Casting Goetic spells requires a Nature Spell Focus. Nature foci are specially prepared items and totems that you can focus your spells through. Nature foci are somewhat difficult to pin down, as part of what makes them special is their ties to what you consider to be holy.
For example, a spell caster from the northern reaches of Aslund could use a totem carved from an Ash tree, or a specially prepared bundle of dried plants and herbs such as belladonna, henbane, and poppies. However, a spell caster from the southern savanna of Cassamba might use baobab, or marula instead.
Essentially; it must be made out of natural plants and woods, the kind of plant or wood must be sacred to the caster, it must be between 1-2 EP points heavy, and cost at least 10 silver to produce.
Some classes may add additional foci to use.
Unless the class specifies otherwise, you cannot cast Goetia while wearing heavy armor or plate armor. Additionally, you cannot use a medium or body shield.
Some classes may require you wear less armor, or may allow you to wear heavier.
