Aspergillum

A small tool use to dispense or sprinkle Holy Water. An Aspergillum comes in 2 forms. both with the same Cost and EP.

Holy Branch

A specially prepared branch of a tree considered to be holy to an order, then specially prepared and blessed. To spread Holy Water from a Holy Branch, you must pair your Aspergillum with an Aspersorium, dipping the branch in the liquid contained in the Aspersorium and flicking it towards your target.

As an Action in the Volley Phase (1), you can dip your Holy Branch in an Aspersorium full of liquid, and it will hold that liquid for 5 Rounds.

As a Master Action on the Miscellaneous Phase (4), you can whip the branch, attempting to sprinkle the liquid you dipped it in on a target within 5 feet of you. When you do so, you reduce the number of rounds that the Holy Branch can hold the liquid by 1 (this will likely mean that it will be reduced by 2 rounds total this round, one for using it, and one at the end of the round).

Due to the amount of liquid a holy branch holds, your main target automatically gets covered in the oil. Additionally, all foes adjacent to your target may get hit by this as well. Make a Dexterity Attack Roll using your proficiency in the Flails Weapon Group, which sets the DC for your secondary targets. Your Secondary Targets must make Reflex Saving Throws. If they fail, they are coated by the liquid, and they are not if they succeed.

Mace

Although not technically a weapon, the Mace Aspergillum looks very similar to a Light Mace. It is lighter, hollow, and contains a reservoir with a sponge soaked in liquid. Treat this liquid as if it had 10 charges. As a Master Action on the Miscellaneous Phase (4) you can whip the mace, attempting to sprinkle the liquid located inside on a target within 5 feet of you. When you do so, reduce the charges of this mace by 1. Additionally, the mace looses 3 charges every 8 hours.

You can refill the mace back up to 10 charges by using a Master Action on the Volley Phase (1) to dip the mace into an Aspersorium and swirl it around, or by opening it up and pouring a flask of liquid into the reservoir, allowing the sponge to soak the liquid. If different liquids are in the mace, none function, and you must spend 1 minute ringing the sponge out and rinsing it to get the mace to function properly.

When flicking the mace, you make an Attack Roll using Dexterity and your Proficiency in the Maces weapon group. The result of this attack roll sets the DC. Your target then makes a Reflex Saving Throw. If they fail, they are coated in the liquid. If they succeed, they dodge the liquid.

Finally, although not a weapon, you can use the Mace as a weapon. When wielded so, you treat it like a Light Mace that cannot use any of the normal mace Proficiency functions. Each time you attack, you use 1 Charge, hit or miss. However, if you hit a target, they are automatically coated in the Liquid, no saving throw. When you hit a creature, roll a 1d6, on a result of 1, your Aspergillum breaks, and becomes useless.

Aspersorium

An aspersorium is a holy tool that holds liquid for an Aspergillum. Aspergillums are dipped into the aspersorium to absorb the liquid located inside. It should be noted that aspersorium are very difficult to use during combat. Although they are 2 EP, they are still wielded with 1 hand. But they are effectively an open bucket, pot, or vase that you must carry around to dip your aspergillum in to use it effectively.

However, due to how they spread the liquid, they can potentially be much better at extending how much liquid you use. You can place a flask of liquid into an Aspersorium, granting it 3 Charges. An Aspersorium can hold up to 9 charges of liquid (3 flasks worth).

Dipping an aspergillum into an aspersorium will recharge the aspergillum (see above), by using 1 charge of the aspersorium.

However, while you have an aspersorium with charges on your person, each time you are attacked, or must make a Reflex Saving Throw, you reduce the charges by 1.

<aside> <img src="/icons/exclamation-mark_gray.svg" alt="/icons/exclamation-mark_gray.svg" width="40px" /> This is complex, why would I track this?

If you threw a phial of holy water, you target a 5-foot burst within range, and affect all creatures in that burst. However, that is 25 silver for 1 throw of a phial (although it will potentially hit multiple targets!).

If, instead, you use it in an Aspergillum, you will get much more “use” of your phial of holy water. If you place the Holy Water in an Aspersorium, you get 3 charges. Assuming you do not get hit, nor do you make reflex saving throws, these 3 charges will allow you to use a Holy Branch aspergillum up to 3 times each charge (9 total), or a mace aspergillum up to 10 times each (30 total!).

However, carrying what is essentially a holy container of liquid and a method of spreading the liquid is complicated, especially in the chaos of combat. Still, if you have good use of liquids (oil and holy water come to mind), this complicated tracking can potentially lead to great combat tactics.
