Equipment Conditions

Equipment exist in 4 different states, or conditions. From best to worst, these conditions are Good > Damaged > Broken > Destroyed.

Items in good, damaged, or broken conditions can be used, although items in Damaged or Broken conditions with penalties. Any rules provided assume that an item is in good condition, unless specified otherwise.

It should be noted that conditions overwrite each other, the penalties do not stack. Thus, if you were using a Damaged shield, and it became Broken, you replace the various penalties from the damaged condition with the penalties of the Broken condition, you do not add them together.

Although equipment conditions work for all types of adventuring equipment, the playtest will only go over the rules for shields. Armor and weapons will be present in the next play test.
