XP should be awarded at the end of each session.
Whenever you run into a fraction with XP gains, you ROUND UP instead of down.
Base XP is the base value of XP you should get for any individual challenge. Note that there are modifiers to base XP for a challenge. Base XP is based on the level of the challenge. For example, a basic level 1 monster should be worth 5 XP, a basic level 1 Trap should be worth 5 XP.
However, base XP is simply a base calculation. A monster may have additional abilities that cause it to grant additional XP and the like. Base XP is simply a calculation for helping a GM determine appropriate XP.
You can also use Base XP to decide how much XP to award.
Level | Base XP |
---|---|
1 | 20 |
2 | 40 |
3 | 80 |
4 | 160 |
5 | 320 |
6 | 640 |
7 | 1,280 |
8 | 2,560 |
9 | 5,000 |
10 | 7,500 |
General XP is rewarded for many things: combat, using critical thinking, and obtaining treasure all grant general XP. General XP is tallied and divided by the number of characters participating in the quest.
If you choose to fight, defeating foes will grant you combat XP. Foes will have a specific amount of XP they are worth, and that is divided amongst all characters in the combat. For example, if you route 2 foes worth 20 XP each, and are in a party of 4, each member would get 10 XP (20 * 2 = 40/10 = 10).
Class XP is additional awards that classes gain for doing certain things.
Fighters, Dwarf Stone speakers, Elf Wanderers
Classes that gain class XP for routing foes gain class XP for each foe they route again, but as class XP.
Clerics, Mages, Dwarf Stone speakers, Elf Keepers, Elf Wanderers
